The Awakening never affected Fox. He actually carried the papier mache bomb strapped to his back well before the event. But everyone around him humors the old man to the extent that he’s actually able gets things accomplished that a “normal” person would not be able to.

The power of pity is strong.

Heroes Day 11: The Pink Fairy

The Pink Fairy

real name: Helen Caldwell

Caldwell was a 5th grade teacher in Keyes, Oklahoma (Go Pirates!) when the Awakening happened. Her proximity to the helium farms there gave her the ability to harness the inert gas to her will.  She can easily take the breath away from her attacker by shooting the gas into their lungs as they scream for their lives in a high pitch death cry. Some have labeled her as a flying superhero… but the more accurate classification of her locomotion is one of a slow float. At least at her current skill level.

After finding about her powers, she had custom made novelty balloons developed for her in which she travels over great distances to save energy. She also got the perm she had always wanted. And she “borrowed” her youngest daughter’s Abby Cadabby wings. Oh ya.. there is the condescending, squeaky, 5th grade teacher voice that comes with the territory as well.

Heroes Day 10: Winter Heart

real name: Kushi

Kushi is very often used as the first line of defense in war between good and evil. The mere presence of him will cause a wave of depression to hit his enemies, rendering them useless as they whimper into their knees. Unfortunately, it also affects his allies, making him a recluse and emotionally troubled individual.

But that only adds to his powers.

Heroes Day 9: Toy Maker

کھلونا بنانے (Toy Maker)

real name: NA

Little is known about this elderly woman. The people in her village in Khan Bela, Pakistan simply call her the Toy Maker, but she has become greatly sought after for freelance hero work. She herself is a weak and frail that can barely lift the basket of yarn and fabrics she carries around with her. But she has the unique ability to control cotton fibres of any type. This could include strangling her enemies with their own clothes, flying around on a  carpet, or simply flinging deadly paper airplanes into the eye of her attacker (at least a 25% cotton blend is needed for this to achieve lethal speeds)

But instead she has taken up a hobby of making plush toys with the cotton from her homeland. These little guys are versatile and deadly and are relentless when doing her bidding (or anyone else’s for a price).

Heroes Day 8: Scandent Rage

real name: Eben Crewe

Crewe’s proximity to the vanilla bean farms of Nuie gave him the ability to block the quorum sensing of the bacteria growing in and around his body… allowing him to replicate himself at alarming speeds.

Unfortunately, his doppelgängers need to be connected to him by the viney tendrils that sprout from him to create such doubles. If an attacker severs the tie between the two, Crewe’s copies have a short time to remain conscious. But he has developed a unique fighting style that incorporates his “brothers” and their umbilical cord tethers.

It also should be notes that on multiple occasions, Crewe’s colleagues have referred to him as the sweetest smelling hero around, an epithet that is reinforced whenever he is in the throes of battle.

Heroes Day 7: Baby Lynne

real name: Lynne Anne Nethers

Baby Lynne was only a year old at the time the Awakening happened. Her only thought was the exploration of her own world and the ability to convey her discoveries to her parent. Because of this, she has an inept ability to understand language and communication skills. Though, at her current age of three, she is really only able to utilize this skill by talking to other babies around her. It is apparent, however, that this skill will come in handy, by the numerous times she has organized her playdates into acquiring a sugary snack.

Experts that have studied her in the few years of her super power suspect that her communication skills will only increase, giving her the ability to continue to talk to infants, other cultures and even… as speculated by renown linguist Dr. Helena Jonewal, to other organisms such as animals or plants.

Heroes Day 6: Pokorny

Blažej Radoslav Pokorny

real name: Blažej Radoslav Pokorny

Walking around at the time of the Awakening, Pokorny was affected by a gathering of the insect Graphosoma lineatum (Shield bug). He was thrilled to find an extra pair of arms growing out of his torso a week after the event and signed up for multiple fighting classes in order to join the superhero phenomenon popping up around the world. But his dreams of fighting crime were shot down when he started developing a secretion problem that is indicative of the stink bug species. If used properly this ability could be used against his enemies quite effectively; but sadly, it just sunk Pokorny into a state of deep depression.

He now spends his time wasting away at bars, trying to keep his four hands busy with as many vices.

Heroes Day 5: Snowflake

Snøfnugg (Snowflake)

real name: Laura Rasmussen

The Awakening caught Rasmussen wandering the limited halls of the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway. Her proximity to the ship at the time caused the lingering ghost of Arctic explorer Otto Sverdrup to fuse with her body, giving her a high tollerence for low temperatures. she is also able to create ice from thin air and attack her enemies with various forms of it.

Though she can withstand extreme colds, she continues to wear turtleneck sweaters to to cover up a side affect of Sverdrup’s ghost residing in her. Apparently his testosterone level is as mighty as his desire to explore.

Heroes Day 4: Deadline

real name: Sidney Derrickson

A British native, Derrickson found himself in the city of Sabodala, Senegal at the time of the Awakening, overseeing his corporation’s gold mining operations. The event had a peculiar effect on him, enhancing and twisting his greed and condescending nature for his employees that were surrounding him at the time. He has the ability to suck life essence from one person and transfer it to another if he so wishes.

While this skill is extremely handy in battle, Derrickson has also started to buy and sell the lives of people, developing quite a lucrative business for himself. Surprisingly, he is very charismatic, and one finds themselves giving more life than necessary while negotiating for a fee. Needless to say, he always retains a small “service charge” for himself to keep the bounce in his step.

Heroes Day 3: Vagabond

Vagabond

real name: Matilde Villanueva

A recent graduate of Humbolt State University, Villanueva was on a trip down to Uruguay, testing her newly owned skills in cartography in the town of Santa Lucía. The Awakening caught her with her prized collection of modern and vintage maps of the world and gave her the sensational ability to travel to any place they depicted. This also included, as she learned later, the ability to travel through time if she concentrated on the vintage maps. Thankfully, amongst her collection of old diagrams, she had on her person a current trolley map of San Francisco to return her to her native moment, though she is unable to time travel to any periods afterwards with her current skills.

Villanueva also carries around a map given to her by her younger brother, drawn in crayon, of the magical world of Stinky Pinky Under Town. She has yet to build up the courage to teleport there.
